Monthly Teen Pizza and Paint Night resumes at the Arts Council of Wayne County this Friday with new hours, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. 2020 is the second year the Arts Council will host this event.

Pizza and a drink are provided for $5, and there’s no charge for those who don’t eat.

“We started Teen Pizza and Paint Night last January to give teenagers something fun to do in a safe environment on a Friday night,” said Georgia Dees, executive director. “We didn’t know what to expect the first month, but several students showed up and enjoyed the camaraderie and casual, creative environment. We’ve offered it the fourth Friday of each month since, and new participants show up each time.”

Most teens bring an art project with them, Dees said, but staff artists are onsite to provide materials and guidance when needed. The participants have come from several schools and home school programs. It’s been an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, she added.

Last year the event lasted three hours, and staff decided to shorten it this year. Also new: each month this year will have a theme if the student wants to try something new. This month weaving sites will be set up where students can work together or individually on the art form.
