US Tennis Association Brings State Championships to Goldsboro for Seventh Consecutive Year

The Travel and Tourism Department for the City of Goldsboro and Wayne County, also known as Visit Goldsboro, is excited to announce the United States Tennis Association (USTA) North Carolina is returning to Goldsboro-Wayne County to host the 2019 USTA North Carolina Singles League State Championships.  The main tournament site will be headquartered at Herman Park in Goldsboro on October 11-13, 2019. Spectators are welcome to watch and enjoy the park facilities at no cost.

More than five hundred of the state’s best tennis players will face off over the three-day tournament this October, making this year the USTA’s biggest tournament yet. The tournament utilizes a minimum of 48 courts throughout Goldsboro, Wayne and Greene counties.

“Goldsboro is one of my favorite areas to host a State Championship. Their facilities are fantastic, the hotels are accommodating to our needs, but most of all, the people are the absolute best to work with,” said Jenny Phelps, director of Adult League Tennis – USTA North Carolina. “I was impressed with the level of hospitality and excellent customer service. (This) will keep our tournament coming to Goldsboro as long as they will have us!”

Goldsboro has been the host city for the USTA tournament since 2013. Since that first year, the tournament has grown from 280 to 500 players, generating an estimated economic impact of $1.2 million over the last seven years to the local economy.

“We’re thrilled to host this great event for the seventh straight year! Our tourism office works closely with the Goldsboro Parks & Rec department to make sure our visiting athletes are impressed by the quality of play, both on and off the court,” said Ashlin Glatthar, director of travel & tourism for Goldsboro-Wayne County. “It’s been an honor to work with USTA, as they have helped Goldsboro-Wayne County evolve as a sports destination.”

Spectators are welcome to watch any and all tennis matches throughout the tournament weekend. The schedule is available online by visiting:  https://nctennis.com/index.aspx?path=singles.
