Southeast Tourism Society Selects NC Pickle Festival as an ‘STS Top 20 Event’

Mount Olive, NC – Southeast Tourism Society (STS) has named the North Carolina Pickle Festival one of the STS Top 20 Events in the Southeast for April 2020. The STS Top 20 Festival and Event Awards have highlighted programs around the Southeast since 1985. Travel industry experts select 20 events per month, and STS publicizes them throughout the United States. The complete list is published on two websites: the Southeast Tourism Society and Travel Media Press Room.

The 2020 NC Pickle Festival is set for Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, in downtown Mount Olive, NC. Friday night’s events run from 5-10 p.m., and the festival’s main day takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“We are dill-lighted to be recognized as a Top 20 Event for April,” said Lynn Williams, co-chairperson for the NC Pickle Festival. “The North Carolina Pickle Festival celebrates the best of Mount Olive the community and Mt. Olive the company. It’s a great tradition spanning over 30 years, and it just gets better and better.”

The NC Pickle Festival is going on its 34th year this April. An average of 40,000 festival-goers flock to the town of Mount Olive for the weekend, which is dubbed the Pickle Capital of the world and home to the famous Mt. Olive Pickle Company. The festival has evolved into a two-day event and is jam-packed with entertainment and “dill-icious” food for the entire family. From the iconic Tour de Pickle bike race with distance options of up to 75 miles to the classic car show and pickle eating contest, the event has become a family tradition for many across the state and country. The festival adds new aspects every year, like helicopter rides, BMX stunt shows, and reptile interactive exhibits, which keeps it fresh and exciting each April.

For 35 years, STS has been spotlighting the best festivals and events in the Southeast with our Top 20 Festival and Events program. Our goal is to highlight the efforts of devoted event organizers and provide additional media exposure and accolades for their events,” said Monica Smith, president, and CEO of the Southeast Tourism Society. “The Southeast offers so many unique, year-round opportunities for tourists and festival-goers to create memories and support the tourism industry -– a vital economic generator for communities.”

Events considered for the STS Top 20 recognition must be at least three years old and have an attendance of at least 1,000.   The online nomination link and submission deadlines are available at SoutheastTourism.org or by calling 770-542-1523.

STS, founded in 1983 and headquartered in Roswell, Ga., is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting travel and tourism within 12 states – Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
