Paddle by the Cliffs of the Neuse where the river cuts a 90-ft. gorge through limestone and sandstone bluffs.

WAYNE COUNTY MUSEUM

This great historical stop for those interested in learning more about the legacy of Wayne County has been around since 1927, originally serving as the clubhouse for the Goldsboro Woman’s Club and then as a USO. Check out their exhibitions, lectures, events and guided historic tours throughout the year!

MOUNT OLIVE HISTORIC DISTRICT

The Mount Olive Historic District captures the architectural history and development of a small, bustling Eastern North Carolina town from the 1850s to 1949. Encompassing approximately 200 acres, the district includes homes, commercial buildings, churches, industrial plants and schools. It is rich with architectural details, with 655 resources and 71 percent classified as contributing – at least 50 years old as of 1999 and retaining architectural integrity.

GOLDSBOROUGH BRIDGE BATTLEFIELD

This battlefield is the site of Foster’s Raid on Goldsborough Bridge. On December 17, 1862, some 2,000 Confederate forces attempted to stop Union General John Foster’s 12,000 troops from destroying this vital railroad bridge. It was a pivotal turning point in the Civil War. This site now entails walking trails to take visitors to nine historical markers where specific events of the battle are detailed. Free guided tours are available by scheduling in advance via email or phone.

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE TOUR

Home of the 4th Fighter Wing, which flies the F-15E Strike Eagle jet, and the 916th Air Refueling Wing, which flies the KC-135R Stratotanker, the Base has an intricate history within and around Goldsboro and Wayne County. First activated in 1942, the installation was named in honor of U.S. Navy Lt. Seymour A. Johnson, a Goldsboro native, who was killed in March 1941. By 1944, the primary mission of the base was to train P-47 Thunderbolt pilots. Base tours for the public are offered monthly through the Visit Goldsboro, NC office.

The Goldsboro Antique Mall was founded in 2008 and they have 30 dealers all in one location. Specializing in furniture, antiques and vintage, you’ll find things ranging from cameras, toys, jewelery and more. THE CLIFFS OF THE NEUSE STATE PARK

The Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, with impressive cliffs overlooking the Neuse River, has been a landmark for centuries.
