DID YOU KNOW: The Wayne County Museum was originally the Goldsboro Woman’s Club? Built in 1927, this building came into fruition when local women began raising the funds to build a home for their club. Collection for capitor began in 1915 and the building was completed for $46,000 with most of the funds coming directly from club members efforts.
DID YOU KNOW: The Goldsboro Woman’s Club offered the Wayne County Museum building over to the USO during World War II for use. Thousands of service men passed through the building before shipping out and attendance reached as high as 12,000 people per month. The money donated by the USO helped pay off the $5,000 remaining on the mortgage.
DID YOU KNOW: Mount Olive isn’t just home to the Mt. Olive Pickle Company! It’s also home to over 200 acres of historic homes, commercial buildings, industrial plants and schools. You can find a variety of architectural styles such as Victorian, Tudor Revival, Classic Revival, Queen Anne, Italianate, Colonial Revival, Greek Revival, and Craftsmen.

Wayne County Museum

David Aaron Johnson Museum
The Mount Olive Historic District captures the architectural history and development of a small, bustling Eastern North Carolina town from the 1850s to 1949. Encompassing approximately 200 acres, the district includes homes, commercial buildings, churches, industrial plants and schools. The district was entered into the National Register of Historic Places under the Mount Olive Area Historical Society.
